13 May Friday The Thirteenth (Day 115)

On this unlucky day, I had 2 good news early in the morning. A Chinese student of INSA was willing to do the exp but can only do it tonight. Which means work at night again. But I don’t mind as long as I can complete my exp. Anyway, I have a great trip coming up tomorrow. Ana had asked her friend for me and he is also willing to help. Great, by Tuesday, I would have done 6 participants; 4 more to find. On top of this, I had asked Ana if she wants to go to the Island together and she thanked me for the invitation. She told me to let her know the plans after I am done with the 2 trips. At least there is no rejection. Although I am now at the last phase of my IA, I am getting more work now. The final report is one. Then the fucking experiment 6 and of course the result analysis that follows. Then there is the paper. And my presentation to the team has been confirmed. It will be on 26th May, 2 weeks from now. Anatole came and told me about the requirement of this presentation. About 15 to 20 min. And it would be better if I can have a video of my experiment. But he said if it is very hard to do a video, then forget it because he knows I have a lot of work to do already. But since he already mentioned it, I would get it done. I told him I have 6 participants by now and he said it seems easy to get participants and maybe we can do one more exp. Haha. Joking of course he said. Next week he might not be around at all due to a conference.

The entire afternoon I was doing my final report. I have so many data from the 6 experiments that it is really taking a lot of my time to organize and present them. I made a call to this Chinese student called Cong Yu and was quite surprised by his British-accented English. Halfway through the conversation, he said, “may I ask if you can speak Mandarin?” I said as casually as possible, “wo dang ran hui jiang zhong wen”. But having been “suan” by another Chinese before, this time I tried to speak with better fluency. And his spoken English is definitely better than mine, at least the pronunciation. He said he has some friends in NTU and later when we meet, there should be quite a lot to chat about. I already begun to like this guy after speaking with him over the phone. Particularly his English. And he stays in the same building as I am. Laurent asked what language do I use in Singapore and I said Singlish. I told him half of the time I speak Mandarin and the other English. Then he asked which language am I better with or is it the same? I said equally bad. I can’t say I speak very good English. And although I always thought my Chinese is beh pai, that Chinese guy who suan me really made me think twice about my Chinese standard.
