First good news came in the morning when I received an email from a friend in Germany. She is actually in Austria now on business trip but most of the time she would be in Munich. She said that it is possible to link up with her if I am going to Berlin at the end of June as she still hasn’t been to there yet. And coming Easter, she would be in Paris. I am hoping that I can meet her during Easter in Paris; unless she is there on a business trip. I don’t mind paying 40 euros going over to Paris; it is a rare chance to meet a friend in a foreign country. But I will have to wait for her reply. The 2nd good news came after the first customer had done his experiment. Mr. Giant brought the anime for me. The entire set burnt in one DVD. The 3rd good news, well not exactly a news but something that made me felt good. A friend of mine (a Hall 2 friend) wrote an entry about me in his blog. Although his title is “The Kuku who went to France”, it really shows his (as well as the ex-supermen as he called them) concerns for me. Even though I know friends in Singapore are now busy with exams, FYP, IA, etc, some of them still find time to chat with me because they know that I am damn lonely and bored here. Many thanks from me here.
When I was walking to the restaurant with my colleagues, I saw students lying around the grass patch, having picnics, reading, listening to music, chatting, or just simply sleeping. Today the weather reached 22 degrees, and this is really a cool and nice weather back in Singapore. But I was really unused to it after 2 months of cold climate. I felt hot with my sweater but was not daring enough to just wear t-shirt. I really find it interesting to see people sitting around on the grass. When I first came to Rennes, or rather Brittainy, I find that the grass here is very tender and fine. I feel like just lying down on it and watch the clouds above move pass. Back in Singapore, only Banglahs lie around on the ground. And they would choose a good concrete ground to lie on. During lunch, Mathieu gave me some ideas about my coming trip to St Malo. He said I should go early in the morning and come back around the evening because in this way, I would be able to see the tides. I was already planning to do that so that I would have enough time to squeeze 2 to 3 hours to Cancale and try the oysters. Cancale is about 40 min bus ride away from St Malo and I’ve seen pictures of oysters stalls just by the seashore. The oysters there are famous for their freshness. Instantly from the sea. Hope I get to try them. Mathieu also said that I should try a famous Bretagne dessert called something Amann. It is a cake with butter and some sauce. He said St Malo has got the best of that. Mr. Giant disagreed and said Dinan has the best. I think I shall try both.
I got news that Yingjun my Taiwanese friend would be going to Singapore this Sat. Damn. Too bad for me and Jiehua who are away in Europe. It has been 2 or 3 years since I last saw him. We were real close friends all the way from sec till JC but ever since he went US for studies, we had little chance of meeting up. The last time was when we were in Taiwan in 2002. Well, I guess if “you yuan”, we would still meet again. Then I was told that recently there was a Pri. Sch outing (such gathering is getting more and more frequent) and one of the classmates who never appears before made a star appearance. As mentioned, one of the first things to do when I am back to Singapore is to meet up with Pri. Sch friends at TCC Holland V. Of course not forgetting going back to Hall2 to see friends. After 2pm, I made a call to the House of International and Miss Corinne said that she couldn’t ask anyone about the VISA issue but she guessed that I should be able to stay for another 3 months. She sounded really embarrassed not being able to help me and promised that she would let me know if she got any news. She was also very sorry for me that there is no Singapore society in Rennes. In the end, I had to comfort her that it wasn’t her fault. She really was very apologetic. I guess I have no choice but to go to the prefecture coming Friday.
At the corridor, I met Marie-Claude the in-charge of the foreign affairs in IRISA. I told her about my departure date is supposed to be 18th June. However, the EGIDE assurance covers me until 30th June. I told her this misunderstanding was perhaps because I told her that I would stay until 30th June since I arrived 2 weeks late. She asked me to bring all my documents tomorrow to discuss with her. I would also take the opportunity to ask her help on the VISA issue and clarify some doubts on closing my bank account. I remember that on Day 1, she said that I should not hesitate to look for her for any admin issues. After my last customer had done the exp, I had nothing to do and chatted a lot with hui, mainly on our tour. Both of us agreed that Loire Valley is place not to be missed after seeing those pictures of the castles on the internet. The castles were by the river and the scenery was marvelous. So we would try to include that in our tour plan. The best would be that we could continue to stay after our VISA has expired. This is because we find that the 3 week tour is really quite pack and too short. Then he said that he might be able to go to the prefecture in April as both his sups would be in Spain for one week. That would be great because I think his prefecture is a friendlier place than mine. Anyway, this Fri is not a good day to go because I have a soccer game tomorrow night and don’t really want to wake up at 7am the next day to go to the prefecture.
Later I would plan my tour again and go down to the multimedia centre to upload my blog. Mr. Giant gave me his INSA card and said he doesn’t need it anymore. He got a new one. So he asked me to go and try if I can enter the centre at night using this card. If not, I can keep it as a souvenir if I want. Yes I would, since the card got his photo on it.
