27 May - Flying home 11th July (Day 129)

I had decided to wear T shirt, Bermudas and sandals to work today. The weather is really hot now. 30 degree Celsius. Anatole came near lunch while I was working on my report. He took out his organiser and planned my remaining days here. He said he wouldn’t be here the whole of next week. I told him if it was possible for me to send the first draft of the paper to him by today. He said he would read on the train today and feedback to me via email next week. But he will only be connected to internet on Monday and Thursday so either of the 2 days, he would give me new orders. Currently, I just dumped almost everything from my final report into the paper. I need to use the whole of next week to sift out the important points and organise it. Also I have to make sure all the excel sheets, the results are neat and understandable as they will be sent to that statistician for analysis. As well as packing up and cleaning of the code. For the week after next, he has only 2 days to discuss the paper with me (Wed and Thurs) because I will be away to Germany on Fri till the following Tues. And he actually planned the remaining Wed, Thurs and Fri to discuss more work. Well, I would give him at most Fri morning because I had to take the afternoon train to Grenoble.

During lunch, Mr. Giant asked where I would go tomorrow and I said I would visit the Fine Arts Museum in Rennes. He said there is some kind of annual festival in Rennes over the weekend and there will be games and activities near the Parliament House. He is in charge of one of the games I think. I said I would drop by and have a look. After lunch, I went to call Thai Airway to confirm my flight. I had to do it in my colleague’s room again. He was not around but the door was unlock so I just went in and made the call. Every time I call Thai Airway, I had to wait like 15 min listening to the machine. This time it was immediate and so I was caught a bit by surprise. I told the lady that I want to check my booking and gave my name. She told me it is confirmed on the 11th July. Initially it was confirmed on the 8th and put on waiting list for the 11th. Before I could say anything, the bitch went mad.

She said why I gave them a number which they couldn’t get through. I told her there is something wrong with that number. She said they tried calling me but the number is not working. Come on. I wasn’t even accusing her for not informing me. I wanted to tell her to relax. Then she asked why couldn’t I give her this number I am calling from. And I said this is someone else’s office. Then she said so? She can speak French and can ask my colleague to get me to the phone if she calls. Gnn. Of course I know lah. But this office is quite far from mine and my colleague not all the time here. Moreover, when I gave my office phone, I didn’t know people outside Rennes cannot call in. I only knew I cannot call out. Why was she so grumpy? In the end I told her now since it is confirmed when can I come and collect the tickets. She still insisted I give her the number and so I did. And I gave her my email also which I think she didn’t take down properly because I still didn’t receive any email from her. But she did give me a website www.checkmytrip.com and from there I can know my flight by keying in the booking reference. I did and it was confirmed I will be flying home on the 11th, not the 8th. But basket. Her attitude was really wrong. I am the customer man!

So now that I will have 3 more days, I will need to relook at my tour plan. The 3 more days would be spent in Paris because everything has been booked before that and any insertion would be super troublesome. Although Paris is very big, we would definitely have more than enough time there. 6 Days in Paris. I think I can even meet up with Anatole or even Nico and Alice. It would be a very thorough Paris tour. I can spend 2 days in Chateau Versailles, one full day in Disneyland, half a day in Museum Louvre. And perhaps one day to go to a nearby city. Maybe Lille. Or Caen in Normandy. I even contemplated the idea of going to Luxembourg. But later I found from the web that it is not very interesting. Whatever it is, definitely we would have things to do there.
