I actually wanted to sleep until 10 in the morning but somehow, I woke up at 9am and couldn’t go back to sleep anymore. I spent the whole morning doing area cleaning and selecting those pictures which I took yesterday that were worth uploading to the web. For lunch, I had rice with luncheon meat. I cut the sachet into 2 and only eat half of the content since it says 2 servings per sachet. It took more than 20 min for the rice to be cooked until it is soft enough for my standard. Even back in Singapore, I always prefer those soft supple rice. After the rice was cooked, I added in the luncheon meat which tasted lousier than those I had in Singapore. It was an awful lunch but it was filling enough.
After that, I had some trouble washing the pot because the luncheon meat was very oily. Moreover, the oil was also very sticky. Thereafter, I copied the pictures into my CDR and headed to the office. Yes, going to the office on a Sunday. I heard from the guys that IRISA is always open and I wanted to go back and use the internet. Tomorrow would be very busy for me as I had to pass 2 full experiments in the afternoon, provided I finished coding them in the morning. So I thought perhaps I would come and upload the pictures today and can get straight into work tomorrow. I arrived at the back door of IRISA which was closer to my office and used my access card. However, the access system was deactivated on Sunday. So I had to try the side door and this time it worked. I walked along a bridge and beneath that was the main lobby of the building. I was surprised to see that there was actually someone at the reception desk but I couldn’t tell if it was a man or woman. Although some of the colleagues do come back to work on Sunday at times, I still wouldn’t want to be caught by the security because I would have a hard time explaining if he can’t understand English.
I walked quickly along the corridor of another department and it was dark as there was nobody. I felt like I was in some kind of spy movie where I would sneak into the office to steal some company secrets. Finally I reached the corridor of my department and went to my office. That was when I found that it was locked. The door to my office had no key hole and is locked electronically by the system. Every morning when I came to work it would already have been unlocked. So there was no way I could use the internet on Sunday. I was really disappointed because that means I would have to rush to upload all the pics and quickly move on to my work tomorrow. With nothing else I could do, I went back to my room. It was a wasted trip and I had to walk 15 min in the strong wind. I wasn’t afraid that the wind would blow me away although it did kind of push me forward. I was more afraid that I would be hit by objects blown away by the wind. Even the rubbish cart was overturned.
Back in the room, I watched a Chinese movie “Long Feng Dou” starring Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng. I was having a can of coke while watching the show. I bought 6 cans of coke for 1.50 euros on the very first day I got here in Rennes and this is just my 2nd can. I don’t have to put the coke in the fridge because it was already cold enough. The show was really lousy to the max. Andy and Sammi had played as couple for so many times that there was no “freshness” at all. But still it was a show by Andy Lau and so I watched it till the end for he is my idol from young. After the show, I began to draw the calendar for month of March, at the same time planning some activities for that month. I don’t think I would be traveling the following weekend because I felt that I had overspent this week. I hope that next week I would just need to spend 6 euros for the soccer and another 3 for laundry. As for grocery, I think my supply now should be able to last me till the next weekend. Since day 1 till now, I had only saved about 250 euros (it would be 380 euros if I include the 130 euros deposit for the residence which I would get back in the end). I hope in March I would spend much lesser because now all the necessary stuffs had been bought (kettle, 12-25 card, train ticket on Day 1, etc). My budget per month would be:
- Rent: 236.97 (fix)
- Lunch: 40 (fix)
- Laundry: 6 (fix)
- Dinner: 10
- Breakfast: 4
- Traveling: 60 (include meals, transport, etc)
- Miscellaneous: 20 (include soccer, luxury items, etc)
If this is what I spend every month, I would be able to achieve my target in June. I had already spent 40+ on traveling this month and am left with about 13 euros for a short trip.
After making the calculations, I played PC game. It had been a week since I last played PC game and this showed that I had been busy which is good. After the game, it was dinner time and I went to make some pasta. People had start moving back to the residence as today was the last day of holiday. Soon the kitchen would be crowded again. It was pasta with cheap ketchup again and I thought maybe I would add an egg. After adding the egg, it soaked up all the water and the pasta was very sticky. Somehow, it made the portion smaller and I was still feeling hungry after that and so made a cup of instant soup. It was really boring spending the whole day in the room and I wonder what would I do next weekend. I think maybe I would go into town. It had been quite a while since I’ve been into town as the past 2 weekends I was spending my time in other cities. I was hoping that tomorrow I would be able to find out if there is a Leader Price supermarket in Rennes and I could do my grocery there during the weekends.
