18 April - Tour Plan Settled (Day 90)

It was back to the good old days of slacking in the office again. I spent the morning looking through the tour plan and that was when hui came online and told me what he got from his prefecture this morning. Apparently the lady that answered his questions was not sure about the VISA issues. Hence she gave him 2 numbers to call: British Consulate in Paris and the VISA Department for Foreigners in Paris. I asked hui for the 2 numbers and went to make the call in Julien’s room since hui had no access to telephone in his office. I also wanted to ask Julien to test out my simulation but he wasn’t around. Instead, a guy called Richard was there. Never seen him before. I called the British Embassy first because I was quite sure they can speak English. The lady said that I need to apply a VISA to go to London. I told her with my SG passport, I already can enter England without a VISA. She then said that in that case, I need to go to the French Consulate in London to get a return VISA. And she gave me the number for that. I told her that I have got the resident card for France and she said in that case it would be easier. I might not even need that return VISA. Anyway, the outcome was to call up the French Consulate in London when I reached there. But wouldn’t it be too late if I find out that I can’t return to France when I am already there? I would be stuck there. She said wouldn’t be a problem again. The return VISA takes just one day to do.

Still unsatisfied, I called up the VISA department in Paris and the guy who answered the phone couldn’t speak English. Hence he diverted my call to another department. The lady who picked up the phone was the same one whom I had spoken to a minute ago. And she seemed quite pissed that I called her twice. I told her I was diverted to her. Not that I wanted to listen to her not so good English. Somehow this VISA issue is settled. We would just call up the French Consulate in London when we get there. And looks like I have just wasted 55 euros! Never mind. I then emailed Ana asking if she wants a coffee break today. She said she is quite busy today and asked me if tomorrow or Wed is ok for me. I said anytime is fine with me because my boss will not be around for the week. It was lunch and everyone else has gone to the cafeteria to take sandwiches because the restaurant was closed due to the school vacation. That left just me and Laurent and we went to the STAR restaurant.

We chatted a bit over lunch and I asked him if he has traveled to some Asian countries. He said he would like to when he starts working and has some money. He has some friends in SG, Indonesia and Mongolia. Wow Mongolia! And as form of courtesy, I told him he can pay me a visit if he comes to SG. I said that just to be polite. Didn’t mean it. Wah lao. I am very bad. He then said that China and Japan had some disputes because of WWII issue. Yah I know. Japan trying to change the education system to whitewash their sins in the past. On the way back I met Marie-Claude and she looked radiant after her one week vacation; beaming with smiles. Back in the office, I read my friend’s blogs and now I have one more sissy joining the Blog Club. Haha. He is the most dared-devil person I ever met in my life. Super ego, Always-think-he-is-right mentality and “Zhan Dou Li” equals to 100 when it comes to arguing. One can only bow to him in a quarrel. No way can win. To avoid further damage, one just has to keep his mouth shut. And every living creature to him is a “cb giah” or a “fucker”. Human beings no longer have names to him. And yet he is writing a blog. Maybe next thing he would do is to watch Taiwanese “au xiang ju” like Meteor Garden. In any case, his blog would be one more entertainment for me.

Later I went to catch Julien to do my exp when I heard he was back. Then it was back at the tour plan again and finally, everything has been finalized. Tomorrow I will start making all the necessary bookings. The planning of this tour has been too long and I just want to get it out of my mind asap. After making the bookings tomorrow, I would take my own sweet time to read up and find info on every place of interest that we are going to visit. In the midst of my surfing, Laurent suddenly shouted WTF! He said he had some problem with his programming. Previously he created a library and had a hard time utilizing it. Now he had deleted that library in his program but somehow his program is still using it. Then he said there must be a spirit inside his PC. Hahaha ha ha ha h h h ….
Good joke Laurent K

In the evening, I have finally chosen the 10 FYPs that I want and submitted my choice. One more load off my mind. I guess the rest of my days here shouldn’t be very busy and I would use the extra times to read up on topics and areas related to my FYP. Must fully utilize every second of my life. Hope this mentality remains the same when I get back to SG.
