I went to look for Ravi in the morning to ask him to go with me to the supermart. He only woke up when I knocked on his door. While waiting for him to get ready, I waited outside his room. Although he said I can go to his room anytime to use the internet, I don’t think I would. Because of the smell. When we were walking outside, it was still ok. But his stuffy little room has that Indian smell. I am not being racist. He is an ok guy. Just the smell. So, nope I don’t think I dare to step inside his room, fearing that the smell might linger on my body. On the way to the supermart, he asked me about Java again. I was a bit afraid that he might ask me to go to the lab later. No work on Saturday man. He asked me about how to use the Mouse Listener Event and stuffs like. I tried to explain all that I know.
At the Intermarche, he bought a lot of food stuffs. And he was looking for the crust of the pizza. He said he could make his own pizza with some ingredients. Wow. Might as well do Roti Prata. And he could also make curry but not exactly Indian style because of the limited ingredients. He bought some powder to make the base soup and added onions, tomatoes, and other spices to make the whole thing tastes like curry. He also bought a packet of 7kg rice. In fact, he just kept buying without calculations. For me, I had already done my grocery and hence just wanted to buy some chips and coca cola. I didn’t want to buy the cheap Leader Price coke which costs only 0.16 cents per can. It tasted awful. I bought original coke. I also didn’t want to buy chips from Leader Price because they were all ulu brands. In the end I bought Pringles. For luxury items I would go to Intermarche. For grocery, it would be Leader Price.
Then I looked for some Scotch tapes but they were all too expensive. 2 euros at least. I just needed a little bit to paste my poster on the door. In the end, I didn’t buy. I also took a look at the hairbands but they all looked too sissy. There were very few people at the supermart on Saturday morning and hence there was no queue at all. Ravi bought a lot of stuffs and was very slow in packing the products into the plastic bags. Moreover he was talking on the phone at the same time. Still he took his own sweet time and the goods of the next customer were already on the way to the loading area. I went forward and helped him pack. The cashier looked a bit impatient and in the end I said “bon journee, au revoir” to her. Ravi said “thank you, bye bye”. He is really very reluctant to speak French. On the way back, he asked what I would do today. I said I would concentrate on my report because I have less than a month to the deadline. Well, I wasn’t going to spend the entire day doing report of course. I just didn’t want him to come and look for me. Very bad of me. But I just wanted some personal time. I think Ana felt the same.
Ravi said he would be going to Le Mont St Michel tomorrow with an Indian professor whose wife is a French. That’s great. It is not very difficult to find other Indians here. Same with the Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish. But not so for SG. I still think I am the only SG in Rennes. I helped him carried his grocery to his room and then went back to my room. I drew a nice poster to advertise my experiment and pasted it on my door using post-its. I just cut the edge of the post-it into a strip and taped at the corners. But I don’t think it would last long. Will have to ask Mathilde if she has got any Scotch tape. I went to the kitchen to cook lunch and there were a group of people chatting inside. One of them was my neighbour, the great chef. They were not French but I can’t figure out what language they were speaking in. Spanish I guess. After lunch, I went on to do my report. Someone knocked on my door and I hoped it wasn’t Ravi.
A tall African guy stood outside my room and said he was interested in the experiment but didn’t know what virtual reality is. I didn’t try to explain what VR is (to simulate real world using computer graphic) because I think it would be too complex for him. I just roughly told him the objective of the experiment. He said he could do now. Oh, he thought the exp is conducted here. Gosh, I didn’t state clearly on my poster. I told him it would be conducted in IRISA laboratory and asked if he could come. He said ok, next week he would come and look for me again. He had another friend standing beside him all the while but I guess he can’t speak English. Both were Africans (I guess) and their names were Pierre and Mondra. Anyway, language is not a problem because as long as they are willing to come, I can get my colleagues to help me with the translation. So this is great news. I hope next week when the school reopens, more people would come knocking on my door.
After spending some time on my report, I stopped because I had forgotten to bring back some data from the office. Then I played game all the way until dinner. Thereafter, I picked up my San Guo Yan Yi and finished up the last 2 chapters. This book has really been a great companion to me since Day 1 until now. I remember I started reading it in December while preparing for this IA. I read about a quarter of it before I came here. Ever since then, I had been reading it almost every night. In fact, I started to read it again while I was in Bangkok transiting my flight. It is kind of sad as I read on because all the heroes began to die one after another as the story continues. Even though I already knew the ending because I had read it once before, I still felt sad for the decline and termination of the Han Dynasty. My favourite characters are Zhao Yun and Jiang Wei. The end of this great novel also marks the start of the last phase of my IA. Everyone is telling me that I must have finished the bulk of my work by now. Indeed I had. And tomorrow would be 1st of May. I guess things would be moving on much faster now.
