I started working on my report early in the morning. At around 10am, I went to find Ravi to ask him how he got to Berlin last time. I met Anatole at the corridor and he asked me to go to the cafeteria with him to discuss about work. I always prefer to discuss work in cafeteria. Ravi told me to take a flight there. He was not much help. I don’t think he went Berlin last time. Think he luan sian. But his price was quite accurately; around 300 euros to and fro. I went back to the office and found Anatole. Laurent also wrote for me the name of the coast we would be going tonight. It is called Perros Guirec and Anatole said it is very famous in Brittany. But I don’t remember this name appearing in my guidebook. All those places with 3 stars, I would read about them. I just did that and that place had 2 stars. We would be leaving around 12 midnight as his friends only leave Paris at around 9pm.
At the cafeteria, we discussed about the results on the last experiment. Then he went into details about my final report. Really very detail. The overall structure was good enough he said. He just helped to beef it up a bit more. He asked if there is a word limit and I said around 5000 words. But I told him 5000-word is really too limited and restrictive. I would only be able to write half of what I had done here. He then asked I wouldn’t respect that limit? I said yes. I wouldn’t follow that. Make no sense. He said he sees a revolution in me. Probably affected by the culture. I am becoming less conforming. Haha. I think this is just a small incident lah. But overall yes, I have become more spontaneous and less dull.
We had lunch with the 2 Americans again. I mentioned when I first met them I didn’t like their friendliness. But now I just love them because they are so hilarious; like dumb and dumber. Mark, the skinny guy is always bubbly and hyper. Jaakko on the other hand always squirt his eyes and act cool. At lunch, Mark was eating muss and exclaimed that the muss was packaged like a pudding. He said, “oh look! It is a muss in a pudding! I am so amazed!” Jaakko then said, “can you stop being amazed by every little thing you see in France?” Mark said, “it is all these little things that makes the difference. And this is the first time I am out of my country, not counting Mexico and Canada. And what amazes me is the cars here are so small. But another amazing thing is there are large cars also! Hahaha!” He is really very dumb and funny. Mr. Giant said he would have a heart attack if he were to go to the supermarket. Mark said he already did.
Then we were talking about Star Wars Episode 3 and Mr. Giant said sorry that there is no VO here in Brittany. There is only VF. VF is Version French and VO is Version Original. He said that in Brittany, the bigger the movie, the more unlikely it would be original. He said we could watch the VO one in Paris. Mark was very disappointed because he was a big fan of Star Wars. Mr. Giant was unhappy also because he never likes movies that are dubbed. Somehow, certain elements would be missed.
The entire afternoon I was fully focused on my final report until at one point, I just sat there and slept. Too tired. Near the end of the day, I checked on the flights to Munich and found one quite reasonable price: 188 euros to and fro. This is cheaper than train which cost 144 euros for a single trip which is like 13 hrs. And the timing of the flight is good. I then emailed xiaopei to confirm with her. I think I might be able to take 3 days off during that period. This is because after the discussion with Anatole this morning, he complimented that I had done a great job here. He said I had done well in the programming, finding the 60 participants and produced a well written report. Moreover, I asked him how good is this report as a first draft for the paper. He said more than enough. In fact, he said after I had made the necessary amendments, I can just send him this report. He would look through and feedback to me so that I can modify it into a paper. This really eased my mind because now I know I don’t need too much time to finish the paper. Which means I should be able to take some day offs to go to Germany.
I printed my report at the end of the day but didn’t want to read through it. I was just too tired. I wanted to go back and rest and get prepared for the trip. In my room, I was packing my stuffs and realised that I had a miss call. It was from home and the call was made about an hour ago at 6pm. That means 12 midnight in SG. My parents must have missed me because I haven’t call home for 3 weeks. Really must find time to call next week. After Thursday perhaps. After my final report and presentation. Hope they don’t get too worried about me.
