My alarm rang off at 9am but I was still unwilling to get up and slept for another hour. I decided not to go in search for the Carrefour supermart because from the map, I guess it would be pretty far. Just wanted to spend my Sunday lazing around. The rest of the morning was spent on writing my fantasy novel which is still at the prologue stage. Really slow. For lunch, I had curry chicken rice, canned curry chicken brought all the way from SG. Ever since I came here, I had not tasted anything hot. Sometimes at lunch there would be spicy sausages served but they really are nothing. So this curry chicken really was heavenly to me at this point of time. I really wish that the supermart here sells this type of canned food. Will try to look for them on Tues when I do my grocery.
I didn’t watch any movie in the afternoon because I was saving it till the night. The DVD I borrowed from IRISA was Sixth Sense, and since it is about ghost, I think it is appropriate to watch it at night. Back in the army, whenever there was guard duty, I would always ask my campmates to lend me any ghost VCDs that they had. Esp. those Japanese ones because I felt they are more horrifying and have more suspense. I remembered watching “Kakashi” (Scarecrow) alone in the guardroom and also “13 ghosts”. Not only was it thrilling, but it also kept me awake. And not forgetting “The Ring”. I was watching the show using a small 14 inch TV and really can feel “Zhen Zi” crawling out as I was very near the TV. As always, those assistants assigned to do guard duty with me dreaded it. Normally I would tell them to go to the bunk or sentry point and read their storybooks if they are afraid. Not that I wasn’t afraid, I was so scared that I had to cover my eyes at times.
I decided to watch some Jap anime instead. “.Hack/Sign” is an anime about a virtual reality game and players would be immersed in “The World”, completing quests, gaining exp, etc. RPG game that is. However, a boy was not just playing the game, he was “in” the game and could feel pains and smell things. Somehow he just couldn’t log out. Some other players were trying to help him out but they can only help him while playing the game as they still do not know his identity offline. What they guess is that the boy has become a vegetable but his consciousness is still stuck inside the game. But the problem is, the boy doesn’t want to get out himself, he doesn’t want to go back to the cruel reality that he used to be in. I am still less than halfway through the 26-episode anime and so the plot could change a lot in the end, like what most other Jap anime are. Jap anime are not only well drawn, their ideas are original and creative. It is not just purely good versus evil that sort. While watching the anime, I had bread for tea break and scraped the last bit of Nutella from the jar. I also realized that my jar of jam had turned mouldy. When I bought it, it was on the shelves and so I didn’t know I had to put it in the fridge. I guess once the jar is opened, it cannot be left in the open. Same happened to my pasta sauce. Luckily I was finishing them and so it wasn’t much of a waste. But that also meant that I had been eating spoilt food. But I guess they only turned mouldy recently as I don’t recall seeing white patches the last time I had them. Now I have to either put them in the common fridge or buy those of smaller quantity so that I can finish them within a week. The idea of putting my food in common fridge doesn’t sound appealing to me because I feel that somehow my food would go missing.
For most of the time, I would be cooking alone in the kitchen. There was just one occasion when I met the great chef who made that pot of potato soup. I actually had the honor of seeing him in action once. First he fried the onions that he had peeled, then he start peeling the potatoes with his knife. He threw everything in and sort of fried them. Then he would add water and cover up the pot. Looks very simple and smells great. Too bad I won’t be able to do that as it would be too much ingredient for me to buy and my pot is too small. Moreover, it has no cover. I don’t even have a proper table knife. All I have is one Swiss knife. While cooking my spaghetti, a fly kept buzzing around me. It must have been attracted by the rubbish-full dustbin inside the kitchen. I really wish I have a kitchen to myself as this place is too dirty for cooking. Irritated by the fly, I killed it using the table cloth. A while later, a second fly came in and I killed it too. Then the great chef came. He went to the fridge and took out some of his food. I hope he wasn’t thinking that I would steal his tomatoes. After I am done, I left the kitchen and saw the third fly outside the door but I had no free hand to kill it and so it lived. Back in the room, I checked the jar of jam and noticed that the label said that it must be kept in the fridge after open. Should have read carefully. I guess I would use the fridge after all because I am quite sick of canned food like luncheon meat, sardine, etc. Hope I can trust the people here.

The enjoyment of watching Sixth Sense was to see the young boy act. Bruce Willis really has just one expression; that’s squirting his small eyes in front of the camera. Not only is the boy actor a prodigy, he talks like an adult during the interview which was included in the DVD. The choice of words, the content, I doubt any Singaporean kids (even adults) can talk as much sense as he can. Hope I can speak as well as he does, with depth and thinking in my words.
