18 March - Two Months now (Day 59)

Although I woke up an hour later than usual, I was still feeling tired with aches at my lower back. Must have overexerted myself in last night’s game. It was rental day again and it pains my heart to sign the 236.97 euros check every time. Especially when I am not getting internet access in my room. Well, just 2 more payments and I would be out of here. The first thing I received in the morning was an email from hui, telling me what info he got from the prefecture this morning. The good news is that we are allowed multiple entries to France because of our Singapore passport. However, it is definite that we cannot stay in France after the expiry of our VISA. Hui thought that there might be a minute chance that we can change our departure venue which is Paris to another country. In this way, we would be able to travel and stay in other countries. I would call Thai Airways next week to ask about this. The rest of the morning was spent test running the code of Exp 4 and all seemed to work well. I would however, do more testing during the last week before Anatole returns, just to be doubly sure.

At lunch, I kept yawning and was really sleepy. Mathieu said that yesterday I ran a lot and was playing like a fox, here and there in the court. Well the reason why I can run around freely is because I pose no threat at all to the opposite team and hence need no marking from their defenders. That also explains the goal which I scored. I noticed that I wasn’t the only one not in the conversation during lunch. Jaroslav, the Czech guy, for most of the time didn’t join in the conversation even though he speaks fluent French. I find that he is more comfortable speaking English to me and when I didn’t join them for coffee, he felt a bit disappointed as we were chatting halfway and I had to return to the office. The reason was I still haven’t put credit into my access card. I wanted to do that next Monday because I would always go to the admin office to borrow DVD every Mon. So next week, I would join them at the cafeteria.

I work on the 2 programs after lunch and found that one of them was quite impossible to do, given my limited knowledge of OpenGL. So I moved on to the other program but was too tired to concentrate. Even surfing the net makes me feel tired and at 330pm, I really wanted to go back and take an afternoon nap. But I didn’t as I would not be able to sleep at night. So I looked up all the European countries that I would like to visit and bookmarked their official tourism sites. I also planned a little on my own Brittainy trip for the next few weeks. If next week, which is Easter, I am not going to Paris, I think I would book a room in the youth hostel of Belle Ile and spend a night on that island. My friend still haven’t reply me. And the following weekend, I would most probably go to Brest (2hrs train ride west of my place) and visit the Oceanopolis, the underwater world. From its website, it seems like there would be no more discounts after 3rd April but I wasn’t sure as the site is in French. For whole of next week, I would try to code the 2 programs. And for the week after that, I would rerun exp4 and compile all the results for exp1, 2 and 3 so that I can brief my sup on the analysis when he comes back.

Back in INSA, after watching “Band of Bro”, I began to explore the functions of my camera. This is because I felt quite embarrassed last night when they asked me to set the timer to take a group photo and I said I wasn’t sure how to do it. I am really not a gadget guy. The same thing happened half a year ago when I went cycling in Pulau Ubin with some friends. I had my bro’s camera with me and I didn’t know how to use the macro function. In the end, it was my friend’s gf who found the function. So after reading the manual just now, I found that there are a lot of functions in my camera, like taking picture of portrait, text, food, flowers, museum displays, etc. But I wasn’t sure there would be any difference if I were to use the “food” mode to take picture of flowers. And I can take black and white pictures too! This is really great as I find that this function suits perfectly for medieval buildings like cathedral, castles, etc. Hence, with a better understanding of my camera, I should be able to take nice pictures tomorrow at St Malo.
